2008 USUAL SUSPECTS

VINEYARD PROFILE

McLaren Vale Shiraz (95%) sourced from the Buttery’s vineyard (approx 25 years old) just outside of the McLaren Flat township at the base of The Range. This shiraz was co-fermented with Viognier (5%) from the later ripening Maslins Beach vineyard to ensure co-fermentation at optimum ripeness for both varieties. This results in a solid backbone of natural acidity (aiding longevity) and a well integrated wine with balance and complexity. For the first time, approximately 25% of this vintage has been matured in American Oak, with the balance maturing in a combination of new and older French Oak for a period of 18 months. Bottling took place in January 2009 with minimal filtration.
