VINEYARD PROFILE

BLEND
66% Grenache
15% Mourvèdre

PLOTS
The Grenache comes from Palestor Boursan, Grand Pierre, and Cabrières plots. The Mourvèdre comes from Les Mascaronnes and Boursan plots. The Syrah comes from Le Parc and Cabrières plots. The Cinsault come from Pierre à feu plots. Representative soils of Châteauneuf-du-Pape: large pebbles, yellow and red sand, red clay. Average age of the vines: more than 70 years old.

TASTING NOTES

Dark purple. Highly fragrant bouquet of dark berries, woodsmoke, dried violet and fruitcake. Very rich for the vintage, offering weighty black currant and mulberry flavors and a sexy floral quality. This is more structured and dense than the terroir, and shows stronger finishing thrust and tannic grip. The 10% Syrah in the blend - and more might be added prior to the bottling - will ensure that this ages well, Julien Barrot believes.

WINEMAKER NOTES

Winemaking in barriques (1 to 3 wine old - 20%) and in foudre (80%)

Destemming of underripe stalks The wine stays on the skins for over 4 weeks. Pumping over, rack and return, punching down the cap, and stirring the lees. The use and frequency of these techniques depend on the grape variety, plot and vintage…
The Mourvedre and the Syrah are aged on its lees in Burgundy barrels used to age 2 or 3 previous vintage. The Grenache and Cinsault are aged in old oak casks Ageing lasts approximately 18 months. The wine is not filtered before bottling.

HARVEST NOTES

Rigorous bud pruning. Furthermore, green harvesting and leaf thinning are done.

The picking is entirely by hand, with sorting in the vineyard and again in the cellar.
