2008 PINOT NOIR

VINEYARD PROFILE

The fruit for this wine comes exclusively from the lower terraces of the Seresin Home Vineyard. The vineyard is made up of a variety of Waimakiriri type soils of alluvial origin with free draining bsalt pebbles. Each vine is thinned to carry one bunch per shoot. The fruit was hand-picked on April 12th.

TASTING NOTES

"The 2008 Home Pinot Noir is a single vineyard wine coming from 19 year old vines, aged 15 months in French barrique, 35% new. Medium ruby colored, it has intense cherry and raspberry fruit aromas matched by earthy notes, black truffles, underbrush and moss covered tree bark. Whiffs of cassia and roses come through after a few minutes. Crisp, intense and earthy/spicy on the palate, this medium-full bodied wine has medium-firm fine tannins and a long finish. Drink it 2012 to 2016." 91 points -Robert Parker

WINEMAKER NOTES

The nose is rich with aromas of ripe red cherry, layered over game and leather. The palate is concentrated with cherry, plum and cranberry flavours, underpinned by notes of cigar box and spcie and fine grained tannis.

CELLARING POTENTIAL: Enjoyable now but this wine will only improve over the next five to ten years.

HARVEST NOTES

The fruit was hand-sorted before being de-stemmed and cooled, after a pre-fermentation soaking period the juice was allowed to warm and fermentation started with wild yeast. During fermentation the caps were hand-plunged daily. The wine was then left to sit on skins for two weeks for post ferment maceration; a total of four weeks was spent in contact with the skins. The small volume of wine was then drained and lightly pressed before being transferred to three French barriques, approximately 35% new. The Home Pinot Noir went through natural malolactic fermentation during fifteen months spent maturing in barrel, before being bottle unflitered and without fining.

TECHNICAL INFORMATION

The finished wines has an alcohol of 14.0%, pH of 3.63, and 6.0 g/l titratable acid.
