Willakia Vineyard is located towards the orthern end of the Eola-Amity Hills AVA, which is located within the Willamette Valley, home to many of Oregon’s finest Pinot Noir vineyards. During the growing season, ocean breezes push through the Van Duzer Corridor in the Coastal Range maintaining a consistently cool climate that is the hallmark of all great Pinot Noir winegrowing regions. This climate, combined with the shallow, well-drained volcanic soils of the Willakenzie and Nekia series that dominate this area, are the primary reasons the Eola-Amity Hills AVA is emerging as one of the world’s most exciting winegrowing regions.Following the perfect bloom time weather conditions, the warm weather characterizing the 2006 growing season at Willakia Vineyard resulted in optimal quality at harvest. Winemaking began with gentle destemming, after which the whole berry fruit underwent a prolonged cold soak, followed by gentle fermentation in small batches. The resulting wine lots demonstrated diverse personalities based on vineyard site soil and topographic characteristics together with clonal diversity; these qualities were then enhanced by 11 months of barrel aging in French oak barrels, one half new. Reductive winemaking techniques optimally preserved the finesse-oriented subtleties inherent in these wines. The final blend represents a lot selection of the finest wines of the vintage which were then artfully combined to highlight the elegant aromatics, sap and youthful power characteristic of this site.Varietal Content 100% Pinot Noir
