VINEYARDS

Located at an average altitude of 1500 feet, Poggio Antico boasts some of the highest vineyards in Montalcino. The elevation brings constant maritime breezes from the sea 30 miles away which is visible from the wine cellar. The altitude and constant breezes keep the grapes naturally free from fog, frost and mildew, allowing Poggio Antico to grow its grapes in the most environmentally-friendly way possible. The classically positioned south and southwest facing vineyards exploit as much of the sun as possible to ripen the grapes, while the cool nights bring a refinement and elegance to the wines. The vines are planted on a perfectly drained terroir with a mix of galestro and calcareous rocks.
