Full of life with boundless passion and enthusiasm for all things cultural would be an apt description of Gustavo Santaolalla. Gustavo is world renown in his field of music. He is a two-time Oscar winning film composer. He garnered the golden Oscar statues for the films Brokeback Mountain and Babel. Today, Santaolla is considered the most influential producer of Latin bands and Latin music. As an artist and producer he is the recipient of fifteen Grammys and a Golden Globe Award.

Santaolalla’s good friend and colleague is Raúl Orozco, a musician from Mendoza, part of the folklore duet Orozco-Barrientos, whose song “Celador de Sueños” was given a Grammy award.

Gustavo believes that cultural identity will be the business of the future. The culture he most passionately wishes to promote is his beloved Argentina. With wine as another of his passions, Gustavo started Cielo y Tierra in 2005 when he purchased a vineyard in Lunlunta (Lujá de Cuyo, Mendoza). The Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon vines are from 14-40 years of age on this 10 hectare vineyard.

Together with winemaker Juan Carlos Chavero, Santaolalla and Orozco with passion and artistic flair, have their sights set on becoming known as one of Argentina’s finest wine producers.

The Luján de Cuyo region is the birthplace of Argentina’s Malbec. Ever since it was the center of Mendoza’s viticulture it is where you can find the oldest Malbec vines. Being near Mendoza City, most of the traditional wineries are located here.

Inside Luján the finest vineyards can be found in Vistalba, Argrelo and Lunlunta around Luján de Cuyo city and the Mendoza River.

Lunlunta is a magical place. Lunlunta was the site chosen by the Huarpes (the natives of the region) as a retreat for meditation. It is no wonder Gustavo chose this place for his Heaven (Cielo) & Earth (Tierra).
