Collazzi

Villa Collazzi is one of the most impressive estates in all of Tuscany. This architectural landmark was originally designed by Michelangelo in 1560 for his friend, Agostino Dini. It offers commanding views of the surrounding countryside. I Collazzi is a property of the Marchi brothers, Carlo and Bona. During the last decade the Marchi brothers invested heavily in the development of Collazzi’s farming business, renewing the vineyards and restructuring the cellar, with the goal of producing excellent wines.

Winemaker's Notes

Deep red color. Elegant, complex aromas of spicy balsamic and hints of ripe black fruits. Silky, rich, intense and full-bodied on the palate. The wine finishes with roundness and elegance from the beautifully balanced structure.

A rich red, yet there’s underlying freshness and firmness for this ripe vintage. Lots of blackberry and blueberry character and chocolate underneath. It’s full-to medium-bodied with firm tannins and a pretty finish. Try after 2022.

The 2017 Collazzi is 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Cabernet Franc, 20% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot, a blend that works so well here. Juicy black cherry, dark plum, mocha, grilled herbs, lavender and dried herbs all flesh out in this sumptuous, luscious wine.

From a very hot vintage, the Collazzi 2017 Collazzi is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot. This is a generous and thickly layered Tuscan red that unfolds slowly to show blackberry, dried cherry, spice, tobacco, leather and grilled herb. Collazzi is the quintessential steak-and-potatoes wine with lots of dark fruit, smoke and a solid structure to pair with a hearty meal taken straight off the grill. 2021 – 2030

The 2017 Collazzi from Tenuta I Collazzi shares the same octane as the 2018, 14.5 percent, as well as the same cépages of fifty percent cabernet sauvignon, twenty-five percent cabernet franc, twenty percent merlot and five percent petit verdot. The bouquet is deep and classy, wafting from the glass in a blend of black cherries, sweet dark berries, cigar wrapper, dark soil tones, a touch of fresh oregano, lovely spices and plenty of cedary new oak. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, ripe and nicely soil-driven in personality, with a fine core of black fruit, well-integrated tannins, lovely balance and grip and a long, complex and focused finish. This is excellent wine. 2029 – 2075
