For six generations, from 1835, the Duveau family has produced wine at their estate, Domaine de La Guilloterie, in the Saumur Champigny region of the Loire Valley. Now, Patrice and Philippe Duveau carry on the family legacy and manage the 50 hectare (123 acre) estate.

The Wine

Vineyard Profile
  • 3.62 Acres single plot.
  • Located in St. Cyr en Bourg, closed to “Bellevue” lieu-dit.
  • This is the only “Guilloterie” Chenin Blanc plot, others devoted to “Elegance” are in Brézé.
  • That precise plot is closed to a grove, one side of it bordered by a Tuffeau wall, and ending on  plant slope; makes a great plot for biodiversity.
  • Oriented south, south-west optimizing maturity.
  • Limestone clay terrior.
  • 50 year old vines.
  • Low natural yields and less compact grape bunches.
Harvest Notes
  • 50% thank, 50% in 450 Liters oak tunns:  proportion new, 1, 2 and 3 wines tuns.
  • Fermentation in tanks and tuns, 1 year on lees with stirring.
  • Stirring done and adapted, based on vintage expression and natural richness of the wine.  Generally 2 times a week the first 3 months, then stopped or more if needed.
  • Oxygen treatment of the harvest at reception and active maceration of the must to reduce the SO2 need and do lower the vegetal polyphenol, then improving the quality and ageing on lees.
  • Bottling:  Usually in September, then bottles do age in Tuffeau cellars few months before commercialization.
Winemaker's Notes

Extremely delicate nose, opening on citrus fruits and acacia flowers.
