Domaine Roblet-Monnot

Volnay 1er Cru Taillepieds

Region: France - Burgundy

Domaine Roblet-Monnot

Pascal Roblet can trace his roots in Volnay to the 1600,s on his mother’s side and four generations on his father’s side. All of Domaine Roblet-Monnot’s holdings are in Volnay, 6 hectares. Pascal’s conversion to bio-dynamic viticulture in 1997 along with his high density planting, 12,000 vines per hectare, and very low yields, 30-35 hectoliters per hectare, are part of what has transformed his domaine into one of the leading sources of wine from these communes.

The 2015 Volnay Taillepieds 1er Cru shows a bit of reduction on the nose, eventually clearing to offer undergrowth and bay leaf infused red fruit. The palate is underpinned by firm tannin, impressive depth. Quite a complex and grippy Volnay with superb length. Pascal Roblet has really got a handle on this Volnay. I can see this ageing with style and panache.

Very deep crimson. Unusually deep and dense for a Volnay. Also juiciness. Bravo! Silky tannins after an extraordinary concentration of fruit. Exceptionally long. Really smart and fine with obviously great potential. 2023 – 2038, May, 2018

Wafting from the glass with aromas of wild berries, baking chocolate, rose petals, rich soil tones, espresso roast and spices, the 2017 Volnay 1er Cru Les Taillepieds is medium to full-bodied, layered and multidimensional, with a velvety attack that segues into an ample, concentrated mid-palate. Long and penetrating, this is a decidedly serious example of the vintage, and it comes warmly recommended. 2025 – 2045
