Barbaresco Rizzi Riserva “Boito” – 2013

Region: italy - piedmont

Rizzi

Nestled at the very top of the impressively steep, vine-clad hills of the Treiso zone of Barbaresco, the winery’s vineyards were planted as early as the 1960’s in the white marl, calcareous soil typical of this area. An impressive selection of cru Barbaresci is punctuated by the spectacular Vigna Boito  located at the peak of the Rizzi cru. The estate is managed entirely by the Dellapiana family with son Enrico as winemaker and viticulturist. Rizzi Winery participates in “The Green Experience” project which mandates guidelines for environmentally sustainable production.

The 2013 Barbaresco Riserva Rizzi Boito is aging nicely and moving carefully forward through its evolutionary process. It is thick and less openly vibrant, with notes of dried cherry and fruit. This is a sleek, streamlined and sophisticated wine. Drink 2019 – 2030

This is a pretty Barbaresco with blueberries, incense, tar and rose petals.  Medium to full body, lovely acidity drive and a medium-long finish.  Drink in 2021.

Full-bodied and focused, this gorgeous wine opens with enticing scents of dark-skinned berry, pipe tobacco, truffle, new leather and a whiff of camphor.  Savory and structured, the palate presents succulent red cherry, raspberry compote, licorice and baking spice accompanied by firm fine-grained tannins.  It’s well balanced, with fresh acidity.  Drink 2021-2033.

NB vintage. Mid ruby colour. Quite a haunting, evolved nose. Juicy and quite refined. Good persistence and convincingly superior. Great purity. 2019 – 2030
