Trig Point

“A “trig” has been used for many years to establish boundary lines. Trigonometrical stations were set on the top of hills and used as surveying sites. Just as my father was a land surveyor and used these trigs as a reference, so do I when it comes to well known vineyard sites” Nick Goldschmidt, Winemaker.

The Wine

Vineyard Profile

Diamond Dust Vineyard, Alexander Valley, just south of Geyserville.

  • Old, low-vigor vines, planted more than 30 years ago
  • Southern, cooler end of Alexander Valley
  •  Fruit can be taken to full flavor and optimal sugar without hydration
Harvest Notes
  • 2019 defined by 2 dramatic events: Floods in March, fires in October – but neither affected grape quality
  • Cool start to growing season, warm ripening, beautifully paced picking schedule
  • All wines recived 100% focus without rush
  • Longer lasting acids and better tannin and alcohol balance than beautiful 2018s
  • Hand harvsted
  • After fermentations, aged 2 months in 25% new oak barrels
    • 20% new, tight-grain
    • 5% new American
    • 75% neutral oak
Winemaker's Notes

Intense purple and reds in color. The aromatics are opulent and very floral. No spice but more depth and richness than typical Merlots. Black fruits a common theme. Black cherry and plum in the nose. The mouth follows with rich dark fruits of plum, blackberry and some chocolate textures. Lush, ripe tannins, full body and the nice, creamy velvet tongue-wrapping flavor. Drink over 20 years.
