Grower Website Aleva Region: Spain - Castilla y Leon

Eva Fernández has been tasting Tempranillo for as long as she can remember. As the youngest of her father’s children, she spent her childhood at his side, roaming the vineyard and sampling grapes throughout the growing season.

ALEVA is the story of Alejandro Fernández—a man who dedicated his life to wine—and whose legacy lives on through his daughter, Eva. Beginning in 1993, Eva and her father worked side by side as a winemaking team until his passing in 2021. Over those many years, Eva absorbed the family’s winemaking secrets, learning to understand the land and the vines as her father did. As Alejandro often said, “Wine is not manufactured; it is created, cared for, and lived.” Together, they crafted a wine that reflects not only the unique terroir of Ribera del Duero but also their shared passion and commitment.

Each bottle is a tribute to their journey—a story rooted in the vineyards of Ribera del Duero and carried onto the world stage, offering wine lovers an experience rich in both flavor and family history.

ALEVA is a combination of their two names, Alejandro and Eva, symbolizing the profound personal and professional bond between them. The logo, which features their two profiles, further emphasizes this union. ALEVA represents the continuation of Alejandro’s vision, and Eva’s dedication ensures that his values and winemaking philosophy are honored with each bottle produced.

Vines planted at nearly 3000 feet/900 meters, low rainfall and a Northwest exposure tempering the considerable number of sunny days create an ideal environment for the vineyards. The climate is both Continental and Mediterranean, with large diurnal temperature changes. This ensures long, slow ripening to optimal maturity while preserving acidity.

ALEVA is the embodiment of a family’s legacy, a tribute to the land, and a celebration of the art of winemaking.

ALEVA’s vineyard spans 49.4 acres (20 ha) at an elevation of 2,950 feet (900 meters) in the heart of the Ribera del Duero D.O., within the Término Páramo de San Martín. Planted in 2009, the Tempranillo vines thrive in predominantly clay-limestone soils rich in calcium carbonate. A gentle slope provides ideal drainage, while the vineyard’s high altitude and northwest orientation bring cooler temperatures.  Annual rainfall is typically under 400 mm. This combination of conditions extends the growing season, allowing for slow ripening that preserves natural acidity, enhances freshness, and provides deep concentration and flavors in smaller, more intensely flavored grapes.
