Adega Eidos

Albariño Eidos de Padriñan – 2021

Region: Spain - Galicia

Adega Eidos

Adega Eidos is located in Padriñán parish overlooking Sanxenxo harbor on the southern edge of the Val do Salnés subdistrict at the westernmost, maritime extreme of Rías Baixas.

A total of just over 8ha (20 acres) of old and often ungrafted Albariño vines are planted in 100 separate parcels located amongst the gardens of Sanxenxo. The vineyards have a southernly exposure and are protected from the north winds. “Eidos” are the backyard garden arbors of the traditional Albariño vineyard. Grapes selected from vines over 25 years old, and some over 80 years, are de-stemmed, crushed and macerated under temperature control for maximum aromatic extraction. Natural yeasts are encouraged for a prolonged fermentation. The wines are bottled in April following the vintage after extended contact on the fine lees resulting in richly textured and intense Albariños.  The influence of the salty sea breeze and granitic soils shine through with a mineral finish.

92 Points

Mistletoe and pine resin, creamy and oily interest – citrus oils, essential oils, and a hint of caraway-like character. Red apple, clementine, ripe pear and pink grapefruit. Gastronomic style – just a touch of alcoholic heat on the finish. 2024 – 2028

This white gold colored Albarino from Adega Eidos opens with a honeydew melon and nectarine bouquet with hints of lime and light florals. On the palate, this wine is light plus bodied with medium acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, very smooth, creamy, and nicely coats your mouth. The flavor profile is lime zest and saline blend with notes of white pepper and stony minerality. We also detected some hints of stone fruit and almond. The finish is dry and refreshing. The Tasting Panel would pair this very good Albarino with oysters on the half shell or with swordfish, halibut, or Chilean sea bass.
