Collazzi
Villa Collazzi is one of the most impressive estates in all of Tuscany. This architectural landmark was originally designed by Michelangelo in 1560 for his friend, Agostino Dini. It offers commanding views of the surrounding countryside. I Collazzi is a property of the Marchi brothers, Carlo and Bona. During the last decade the Marchi brothers invested heavily in the development of Collazzi’s farming business, renewing the vineyards and restructuring the cellar, with the goal of producing excellent wines. Collazzi produces grapes from this esteemed estate only; a super-Tuscan blend called Collazzi, Chianti Classico named Bastioni, and a select few additional bottlings.
Reviews
Aromas of red and dark berries, cherry chocolate, baking spices, hazelnuts and hints of bark. Medium- to full-bodied, smooth and mellow with fine tannins and delicious fruit. Long and textural. Very attractive and vivid. Drink or hold.
The 2021 Chianti Classico from Bastioni dei Collazzi is made from a cépages of eighty percent sangiovese, eighteen percent merlot and two percent malvasia nera, with the wine given fifteen months aging in oak. The 2021 version comes in at 13.5 percent alcohol in this vintage and offers up a deep and precise bouquet of red and black cherries, coffee bean, woodsmoke, a lovely base of dark soil tones, a whisper of fresh oregano and a judicious framing of new oak. On the palate the wine is bright, full-bodied, focused and complex, with a lovely core of sappy fruit, good soil signature and grip, modest tannins and a long and very nicely balanced finish. Good juice. 2024 – 2045
On the nose, a hint of vanilla-chocolate swirl brings out the sweetness of black cherry, blackberry and black plum skin. Those sweet, juicy cherry and blackberry notes star on the palate, before a finish of dark chocolate and peppery heat.
