Collazzi

Libertà Toscana IGT – 2022

Region: ITALY - TUSCANY

Collazzi

Villa Collazzi is one of the most impressive estates in all of Tuscany. This architectural landmark was originally designed by Michelangelo in 1560 for his friend, Agostino Dini. It offers commanding views of the surrounding countryside. I Collazzi is a property of the Marchi brothers, Carlo and Bona. During the last decade the Marchi brothers invested heavily in the development of Collazzi’s farming business, renewing the vineyards and restructuring the cellar, with the goal of producing excellent wines. Collazzi produces grapes from this esteemed estate only; a super-Tuscan blend called Collazzi, Chianti Classico named Bastioni, and a select few additional bottlings.

The Libertà bottling from Bastioni dei Collazzi is crafted from a blend of fifty percent merlot, thirty-five percent cabernet franc and fifteen percent cabernet sauvignon. The 2022 Libertà comes in at 13.5 percent octane and offers up a lovely, refined nose of cassis, dark berries, cigar wrapper, dark soil tones, woodsmoke and a gentle touch of cedary oak. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, focused and complex, with a lovely core of black fruit, good soil undertow and grip, moderate tannins and a long, poised and very nicely balanced finish. This is approachable right out of the blocks, but would be even better tucked away for a few years in the cellar to allow its backend tannins to soften up a bit more. Good juice. 2026 – 2040

Aromas of black bean puree, tapenade, tobacco, currants and cocoa powder. Fluid and medium-bodied on the palate, with juicy fruit and a medium-long, deliciously plummy finish. Merlot, cabernet franc and cabernet sauvignon. Very drinkable now.
