The Wine

Vineyard Profile
  • Les Muretins Estate—about ten hectares in all—includes several plots located on the appellations of Tavel (6.50ha) and Lirac (3.80ha).
  • The plots in Tavel show all of the soils present across the appellation, offering a rich and diverse variety of terroirs.
  • From the stony marls to worn pebbles on layers of sand, to thin clay soils with limestone fragments and soils made up of colluvial deposits, all of the land is somewhat claybased, which gives the vines a good level of resistance to drought.
  • The plots are planted with white and red grenache, syrah, cinsault and picpoul.
Harvest Notes

In 2014, the vines were cultivated in a reasonable manner with the working of the soil between rows, weeding and fighting against deseases, all undertaken under the weekly supervision of Jean-François Ranvier.

All of the grapes were harvested by hand and transported in crates. A first manual sorting was done at the time of harvest and a second during off-loading, which ensured that only the best grapes were kept. For this harvest, the yield of Les Muretins Estate did not exceed 49hl/ha.

Winemaker's Notes
  • The Tavel from Les Muretins Estate is so enchanting thanks to the pale tint it has.
  • The nose is very fruity but with some mature and complex notes giving it richness.
  • Tangy and lively at first, the palate gets a surprising ampleness before a long and spicy finish.

Reviews

90 Points

A rockin’ Tavel that’s based mostly on Grenache, yet includes smaller parts Cinsault, Syrah, Grenache Blanc and Picpoul, the 2014 Tavel from Domaine des Muretins sports a classic Tavel deep pink color to go with lots of raspberry, citrus blossom, rose petal and subtle minerality on the nose. Medium-bodied, fresh and elegant, with that mix of freshness and richness that Tavel does so well.

This is a particularly savory style of Tavel, not terribly fruit, yet still sowing ample weight and breadth on the palate. The aromas and flavors are reminiscent of honey, wet stone and white chocolate, finishing with a dry, extra stony finish.
