This is rich and broad, exhibiting cherry, tobacco, tar and iron notes on a dense frame. Chewy and a bit monolithic now, with a long finish of loam and savory. Best from 2017 through 2032.-B.S.

Rosso’s 2009 Barolo Cerretta is richer, deeper and more layered than La Serra. Here the fruit is wonderfully open and resonant, while the tannins are barely noticeable. A generous, resonant finish rounds this out beautifully. Hints of cedar, nutmeg and licorice linger on the soft, resonating finish.
