Floral, sandalwood, sage and pure red berry flavors highlight this muscular Barolo, with accents of tobacco and underbrush chiming in as the tannins exert themselves on the finish. Shows good length and potential, supported by fine density. Best from 2017 through 2032.-B.S.

This Serralunga Barolo shows aromas of ripe—almost overripe—black-cherry, spice notes and a whiff of orange peel. The pal¬ate delivers a core of juicy black cherry, white pepper, mint and menthol. While not overly complex, it’s delicious and well-balanced, with supple tannins. Massanois Imports. —K.O.

The 2009 Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d'Alba is unusually supple and gracious for a Serralunga Barolo, which gives it considerable appeal. Tobacco, wild flowers, herbs, mint and licorice add complexity over time, but the 2009 is a wine to drink and enjoy young, while the flavors remain buoyant. This is a terrific entry level offering.
