Neil Ellis Wines

Neil Ellis is a South African wine industry icon and one of the early pioneers to bring quality levels up to world class standards. The winery sits 5 miles east of the town of Stellenbosch in the Jonkershoek Valley. It was founded in 1993 with the philosophy to source grapes from the top growers of the region. The eco-friendly winery produces wines from the regions of Stellenbosch, Darling, Darbanville and Elgin.

Vineyard Profile

Groenekloof is near Darling on the West Coast and consists of a series of hills running parallel to the Southern Atlantic ocean.

  • Soils: Decomposed granite and clay, good water retention
Harvest Notes
  • Harvested January 27 – February 5
  • Grapes picked between 22 – 22.5ºB with total acid 8.0 g/l and pH 3.2 – 3.4
  • Juice racked and fermented at low temperatures
  • Filtered by flotation
  • Aged on lees 3 months before blending and bottling
Winemaker's Notes

Pale straw color with attractive green hues. Bright tropical citrus aromatics, with subtle undertones of fresh cut grass. The palate is elegant with delicately detailed citrus fruits and lively acidity, refined minerality and a poised palate. Completes with a textured and long, flavorful finish.

Pair with fresh seafood and summer salads.
