Barbera d’Alba – 2020

Region: italy - piedmont

Nestled at the very top of the impressively steep, vine-clad hills of the Treiso zone of Barbaresco, the winery’s vineyards were planted as early as the 1960’s in the white marl, calcareous soil typical of this area. An impressive selection of cru Barbaresci is punctuated by the spectacular Vigna Boito  located at the peak of the Rizzi cru. The estate is managed entirely by the Dellapiana family with son Enrico as winemaker and viticulturist. Rizzi Winery participates in “The Green Experience” project which mandates guidelines for environmentally sustainable production.

Winemaker's Notes

This Barbera shows you the harmonious side of the terroir. It showcases fruitiness rather than strength and density. It is well structured, fine and linear to the last note. Ruby red with clear crimson highlights. It has a bouquet of blackberry and sour plum, with light vinous notes. A balanced body, with high acidity that makes the wine fresh and gastronomic.

91 Points

The 2020 Barbera d’Alba is a terrific wine, especially if pizza night is on the calendar. This is a fun and exuberant expression of Barbera with sweet cherry and plum and lots of easy texture to absorb the natural acidity of the grape. This is a simple but very well-balanced expression of Piedmont’s favorite food grape. 2022 – 2025
