Sauvignon Blanc Sunninghill – 2022



Since 1955, the Snowdens have farmed their vineyard high above the Napa Valley. In addition to the stunning views of St. Helena, Rutherford and the San Francisco Bay, the estate offers four separate sites producing remarkably complex and individualistic wines. Winemaking duties are in the capable hands of Diana Snowden Seysses. The winery produces Bordeaux blends from their estate vineyards and a small amount of Sauvignon Blanc from a small parcel they call the Lost Vineyard.

  • Frost after budbreak meant careful mangement and the acre of Sauvignon Blanc was spared
  • Ideal flowering, verasion in July, even temperatures through summer
  • Hand harvested 8/27/2022
  • Fermented using only indigenous yeast in combination of neutral oak barrels and stainless steel barrels
  • No malolactic fermentation
  • Wine aged on lees until May 2023 bottling under Saranex-lined screwcaps

Our Sauvignon Blanc comes from a free-thinking and exuberant group of grapevines in the middle of our idyllic eastern-most “Lost Orchard” vineyard area, on a bluff overlooking Lake Hennessey, with Pritchard Hill on the far shore. We make this wine for the family, exactly the way we like it, but we’re pleased to share.

Matured in a mix of stainless steel and older oak, the 2022 Sauvignon Blanc Sunninghill offers up scents of white peach, crushed stone, tangerine and grapefruit. Medium-bodied, it’s silky-smooth in texture, elegant and harmonious, with ample length. 2023 – 2026

Comes from a 1.1-acre block of vines planted at 800 feet of elevation on volcanic soils. Fermented with native yeasts in steel and then aged in a combination of neutral oak and steel. Closed with a screwcap.
Smells of vanilla, white flowers and lemon pith. Flavours of vanilla and pastry cream mix with lemon and grapefruit notes. Very much in the style of white bordeaux and very competently done. Good acidity and length. (, March, 2024
